An advanced screening review

I expected great things. I was not disappointed.

Movies can be great. Movies based on preexisting worlds, stories and visions can be great. Serenity, a movie based on the cult phenomenon Firefly, was great.

Having seen an advanced screening, I?m going to be purposely cautious of spoilers of any kind. The fact that you are reading this review implies some leeway with the extend of what I can say. So, I will be very general, and I will hold off on a more thorough review until the movie is official released in September.

What I will say is this: Serenity far exceeded my expectations (and those expectation were high). Joss Whedon did not let his fans down. The writing was excellent, the acting and directing was great, the editing was spot on, and the overall movie-going experience was amazing.

I already give this film , right off, even before the official release, with another three months within which to find more ways to polish this movie, a 10 out of 10.

However, this rating will be entirely basis. I am giving this rating now solely from the point of view of a fan. This was a great movie for a fan.

This was also an advanced screening of a movie I won?t be able to see again for three months, so, I did not try to watch this film from a fiercely analytical reviewer?s mindset. I believe people fresh to this movie will find it accessible whereas fans will find a lot of inside jokes, references, and meaning. This movie, this fairly low-budget, underground movie, succeeded in doing what other high-budget, high-profile movies failed to do on all levels. This was a great movie, a quality entertainment experience. I just can?t wait to see it again.
